In Bengaluru, BBMP officials have reported a significant decrease in sewage flow into the Koramangala stormwater drain, from 120 million litres per day to around 8 MLD, following the implementation of the K-100 Urban Waterway Project. However, local residents and commercial establishments along the drain have stated that the foul odor persists and sewage-mixed water continues to flow. The K-100 project, funded with Rs 175 crore by the government, aims to revamp the 9.2-km stretch of the stormwater drain from KR Market to Bellandur Lake with an anticipated completion by the end of 2024. Construction of a 5 MLD sewage treatment plant near Kalasipalya is expected to curb sewage entry into the drain, complemented by the installation of concrete rings and vegetation for natural water purification. Additionally, BWSSB is constructing a sewage treatment plant near Shantinagar to further prevent sewage inflow. BBMP has also completed various infrastructure enhancements, including service roads, pipelines, decorative lighting, landscaping, and retaining walls, on both sides of the drain to improve functionality and aesthetics. The project, initiated in 2021, is aimed at mitigating sewage contamination in the Koramangala Rajakaluve. It was scheduled to be completed by 2023, but missed several deadlines thereafter.
